It’s the $22 billion industry that employs about a fifth of all New Zealand workers. The Government has announced the biggest overhaul of food safety regulations in 30 years. The legislation sets rules around the sale of food and food safety issues such as hygiene.
Food Safety Minister Kate Wilkinson says the existing act is outdated, ineffective and inefficient. She talks to Sibyl Mandow about how this will affect businesses and consumers alike.
